Eaton Electrical’s Andre Mason, Northrop Grumman’s Jeanne Usher and Takeda’s Azmi Nabulsi also join ISTC board
CHICAGO – August 1, 2013 – The Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC), a not-for-profit organization focused on growing the state’s innovation economy, today announced that Eric D. Isaacs, director of Argonne National Laboratory and president of UChicago Argonne, LLC, will serve as chairman of the organization’s 11-member Board of Directors. Isaacs replaces outgoing Board Chair John Anderson, president of the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Additionally, ISTC announced that Andre Mason, district manager for Eaton Electrical; Azmi Nabulsi, M.D. M.P.H., president of Takeda Development Center Americas, Inc.; and Jeanne Usher, director of strategic planning for the Land and Self Protection Systems Division of Northrop Grumman Corporation, have joined its Board of Directors. Usher has also been appointed to serve as chair of the Illinois Science and Technology Institute, a 501c3 affiliate of ISTC that advances education partnerships between the private sector, research universities and the State of Illinois.
“Dr. Isaacs is both a distinguished researcher and a strong advocate for tackling vital, national challenges through scientific innovation. His guidance and leadership as well as the addition of Andre, Azmi and Jeanne to the board, will be invaluable in advancing ISTC’s efforts to unite Illinois universities and federal laboratories with industry and government to spur economic growth and entrepreneurship,” said Mark Harris, president and CEO of ISTC. “We are grateful to John Anderson for his substantial contributions to our work over the past year, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with him and IIT.”
As Argonne’s director, Isaacs oversees the laboratory’s world-renowned research programs addressing some of America’s top priorities – clean energy, environment, technology and national security. Isaacs previously served as Argonne's deputy laboratory director for programs, leading the laboratory's strategic planning process and overseeing the laboratory-directed research and development program as well as its educational programs.
Prior to that, he served as director of the Center for Nanoscale Materials at Argonne and as director of the Materials Physics Research Department and Semiconductor Physics Department at Bell Laboratories. Isaacs is also a professor of physics at the University of Chicago’s James Franck Institute.
“ISTC plays a critical role in maintaining and strengthening Illinois’ stature as a national leader in science and innovation,” said Isaacs. “I look forward to working with ISTC to advance its vital mission of expanding our state’s innovation ecosystem.”
In her role at Northrop Grumman, Usher has executive responsibility for long range strategic planning, new business and capture strategies, investment planning and strategic partnerships. She also serves on the Illinois Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, the Illinois Business Round Table and the Illinois R&D STEM Learning Exchange Steering Committee. Prior to joining Northrop Grumman, she held a variety of engineering, manufacturing, quality and program management positions.
Mason is responsible for leading Eaton’s electrical infrastructure, industrial controls and energy solution sales for Illinois and Southwest Indiana. Mason has 20 years of experience in electrical infrastructure markets with Westinghouse and Eaton Corporation. His diverse experience includes leadership roles in operations, project management, marketing and sales.
Dr. Nabulsi leads Takeda’s Americas region and directs all aspects of drug development activities, including the identification of new product candidates, execution of clinical trial programs and support for innovative lifecycle management approaches for Takeda's marketed products. Previously, Dr. Nabulsi held leadership positions at Abbott Laboratories and within academia, including an adjunct assistant professorship in the University of North Carolina's Department of Epidemiology and a research fellowship at the University of Minnesota's Division of Epidemiology.
