Formed in 2013, EnterpriseWorks Chicago (EWChicago) is charged with creating a vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem that leverages University assets and connects Innovation, Infrastructure, Networks, Talent and Capital within and beyond the university. This vision is achieved by launching and supporting viable complex research-based startups into the Chicagoland economy. Clients of EWChicago leverage startup workshops & commercialization programs and utilize incubation facilities to validate the technical and market feasibility of high-tech innovation and move the innovations from the lab to the market.
EWChicago’s flagship facility, HTI, convening at the intersection of Health, Technology and Innovation, opened its doors in January of 2014. Anchored in the Chicago Technology Park, HTI is a national best practice in shared wet and dry laboratory facilities. Centered on collaboration space, a fully equipped meeting and classroom with HD video conferencing systems, smart board technology and more aimed at nurturing the unique commercialization path of complex research technologies.
EWChicago also operates the UIC Incubator Laboratory Facility, formerly the Chicago Technology Park Research Center. As the first biotech incubator in the country, the facility has 36 wet laboratory suites home to both life science and engineering firms at various stages of development.
