More than 100 innovative Illinois companies and organizations are in the capital city to discuss ways to make a better Illinois.
Today, Gov. Pat Quinn declared April 3 as Innovation Day in Illinois during a breakfast at the governor’s mansion. Innovation Day puts a spotlight on the exciting innovations that are happening across the state. Organizers say one of the areas they focus on is education, and how to get more kids involved.
“We need to really build and harness all the assets we have in Illinois to get more kids and students interested in STEM education and entrepreneurship as well,” ISTC President and CEO Mark Harris said. “So I think Illinois has a lot going in that. We’ve got a Pathways initiative–part of what the state of Illinois put together through our federal Race to the Top dollars to really better connect students to careers in STEM fields.”
Innovation Day is a weeklong celebration with events held across the state.
