CHICAGO –The Board of Directors of the Illinois Science & Technology Coalition (ISTC), a statewide association that promotes research and innovation to foster economic growth, today announced that Mark Harris, former deputy chief of staff for Illinois Governor Pat Quinn, will serve as the organization’s new chief executive officer. Harris replaces Matthew Summy, who will continue to support the ISTC as a member of its Board of Directors.
Harris has worked to execute on Governor Quinn’s core economic recovery and jobs initiatives, including infrastructure, innovation, job training and career readiness, and affordable housing. Harris also served as co-chair of the Illinois Workforce Investment Board (IWIB), while also co-chairing the Board’s recently created Entrepreneurship Task Force, which focuses on promoting entrepreneurial learning at the state and local level.
“The ISTC plays an essential role by working to harness the state’s world-class research, innovation, and intellectual capital across academia, industry, and government to create more new economy jobs,” said John Anderson, Illinois Institute of Technology President and newly elected ISTC Board Chairman. “Mark will bring great energy and experience to this new role and I also want to thank Matt Summy for his efforts to help build the Illinois economy.”
“The ISTC’s success is built around highly collaborative public-private partnerships to advance Illinois as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship,” Harris said. “I am very excited to continue building upon these efforts, which will attract more investment and jobs to our state.”
